Thoracic Aortic Surgery
The surgeons at
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of Ventura County treat complex diseases of the aorta including the aortic root and aortic arch as well as thoracic and thoracoabdominal aneurysmal disease.
As a result of this combined expertise, we have obtained outstanding results for repair of aortic root and aortic arch aneurysms and have achieved low mortality for emergency repair of acute aortic dissection and aortic traumatic injuries. We are able to provide our patients traditional and innovative strategies, including the most advanced thoracic aortic stent graft available, for the treatment of their disease.
Surgical repair of the aorta is generally done when there is an aneurysm, or a ballooning of the aorta, that impairs blood flow. However, not all patients with aortic aneurysms need surgery. Surgical repair is reserved for patients with advanced disease of the aorta, who have either failed medical therapy or have a progressive enlargement of the aneurysm that is considered life threatening. When surgery is required it can performed on the aortic root, aortic arch or the descending thoracic aorta. |
